Jamming 101 at the CBA music camp, Grass Valley CA
Jamming 101’s inaugural appearance at the legendary California Bluegrass Association music camp was quite something. Sid was mobbed the first night with over 40 attendees, and the classes grew from there. By the 2nd night we had four bass players! The instructor line up was stellar, including such icons as Bill Evans, John Reischman, Jack Tuttle, Dix Bruce (thanks for the good words!), Megan Lynch and a lot more… Sid found himself on stage with mandolin yoda Butch Waller and bass diva Lisa Burns at the kickoff concert, “the folks I cut my teeth on!” Sid says. Jamming 101 and Sid Lewis wish to express their gratitude to the following for helping to engineer this amazing event: Rick Cornish, Ingrid Noyes, Montie Elston, Michael Melnyk (for the great pics below…), and all the TRULY AMAZING students of bluegrass who showed up every night and were the best pupils I’ve ever had. Looking forward to years of pickin!

Jamming 101 in Hawaii - 2008
Jamming 101’s first ever visit to the islands was a rousing success, thanks to the wonderful hospitality of the locals! After getting a bunch of help finding venues from Caroline Wright of www.bluegrasshawaii.com, Sid decided to try a class on Maui and Oahu. The first class was held on Maui on February 6, at the home of banjo picker Steve Slater. Steve was gracious enough to host the jam and help spread the word (along with his lovely wife and their dog Lincoln). Thanks for the great time Steve, and we cant wait to come back! Then it was off to Oahu, where the local legend Lawson Cannon (of www.celticwaves.net) provided his amazing solar home for the class. At least 20 pickers showed for this class, and included Ukuleles, Harps, Flutes, percussion and even a Tibetan “Hong” drum! Lawson and Susan (the hosts) were incredibly hospitable and showed Sid and Renay where all the cool beaches were, as well as provided some great jamming afterwards. Also a special thanks to Katie (DJ Zoe) for the radio interview, Robert Schornstheimer for the great bass playing, Jamie Winpenny and Jordan Savuka for the kind words, and all the locals who were so generous to Sid and his haupa houle music. What a example of kanikapila (Hawaiian for jamming), and mahalo to all the jammers on Hawaii! We’ll be back in 2009…

Jamming 101 comes to the KVMR Celtic festival '06
Jamming 101 at the KVMR Celtic Festival is truly a multinational experience! Sid has moved this event to the top of his "not to miss culteral Jams", and you oughta go. It's like getting in a time machine to the 16th century, and jamming with the locals in some kings courtyard....Thanks to Brian and Amy Terhorst for paving the way for Sid to pick some bluegrass with the Celts, KVMR for the support, and all the great musicians who make jamming 101 so fun every year at the Celtic Fest! We had noblemen playing banjo, Vikings with mandolins and even a didgeridoo! The catering was out-of-this-world (Sid is now 12 lbs. larger), and we had more fun than a leprechaun in a gold mine...

Jamming 101 is off and running!

Kate Wolf Memorial Festival
Always a favorite with Jamming 101, the Kate Wolf Memorial Festival is always atruly magical event. Nestled in the ancient oak trees on Wavy Gravy's Black Oak Ranch, this event is truly the who's who in folk music! Among many others, Sid and his Jamming 101 crew has seen Bruce Cockburn, Alison Brown, Tim O'Brian, Laurie Lewis, Greg Brown, etc etc etc! (We are now officially undergoing folk music overdose, and loving every minute of it!) Sid sez: "People really came out of the woodwork and blew me away with their enthusiasm! I had at least a dozen beginners thank me for walking them through their first ever jam, and promised me they would go forth and pick!" With a beautiful river, a fire circle and happy, conscious faces everywhere, the Kate Wolf memorial Festival is an example of how every day should be! Thanks to Cloud, Rick, Peter V, Acorn Radio, and all the amazing volunteers who made this possible...
